GAC Workplace Accessibility™

Accessible Workplaces. Stronger Organizations.

Accessibility does not begin when a customer enters an organization. It begins with the people who work there.

Overview

Building Organizations That Work for Everyone

Global Accessibility Council helps organizations build workplace systems that enable employees with disabilities to participate, contribute, develop, and succeed.

GAC Workplace Accessibility™ combines organizational assessment, ADA workplace accommodation practices, HR systems, accessibility strategy, employee and manager education, Universal Design, organizational excellence, and continuous improvement.

The objective is not simply to respond to accommodation requests. The objective is to build organizations capable of responding to human differences effectively, consistently, respectfully, and sustainably.

Core Services

Workplace Accessibility Assessment

A comprehensive evaluation of accessibility across the full employee lifecycle — from recruitment and hiring through onboarding, daily work, accommodation, and retention. Assessment areas include physical environments, digital tools, internal communications, meetings, training, performance management, remote and hybrid work, and organizational culture.

ADA Accommodation Process Assessment

An independent evaluation of the effectiveness, consistency, accessibility, and documentation of your workplace accommodation processes — examining request pathways, manager and HR response, interactive process procedures, documentation, implementation, follow-up, and confidentiality.

HR Accessibility Assessment

A review of whether accessibility is embedded throughout human-resource systems — including HR policies, recruitment, job descriptions, essential-function documentation, performance management, leadership development, workplace technology, and disability inclusion.

Accommodation Process Design

Help designing or improving accommodation systems — including workflows, request procedures, manager and HR guidance, communication templates, documentation systems, follow-up protocols, escalation pathways, and effectiveness reviews. Designed around the employee experience, not administrative documentation.

Workplace Accessibility Training

A comprehensive training portfolio for every level of the organization — from executive strategy sessions to HR accommodation management, manager guidance, employee fundamentals, accessible recruiting, digital workplace accessibility, and advanced accommodation conversations.

Accommodation Quality

What Effective Accommodation Systems Look Like

GAC evaluates whether accommodation systems are built around eight essential qualities.

01

Clear

Employees and managers understand the process and their roles within it.

02

Accessible

The process itself is accessible to employees with disabilities.

03

Consistent

Similar situations are handled similarly across the organization.

04

Timely

Requests are acknowledged and processed without unnecessary delay.

05

Documented

The interactive process and decisions are appropriately recorded.

06

Individualized

Each accommodation is evaluated based on the individual's specific functional needs.

07

Respectful

Employees are treated with dignity throughout the process.

08

Measurable

The organization tracks and evaluates accommodation effectiveness over time.

Note: GAC provides organizational accessibility consulting, process assessment, education, and best-practice recommendations. GAC does not provide legal representation or legal advice. Organizations should consult qualified legal counsel for legal guidance.

Benchmarking

GAC Workplace Accessibility Benchmark™

GAC applies its organizational benchmarking framework to workplace accessibility — giving organizations a clear picture of where they stand and a structured pathway toward excellence.

Level 1
FOUNDATION

Requirements & Essential Processes

Are fundamental workplace accessibility and accommodation systems established? Organizations at this level have addressed basic legal requirements and created initial accommodation pathways.

Level 2
FUNCTIONAL

Effective Workplace Accessibility

Can employees actually use the systems successfully? Accommodation processes work consistently, managers are trained, and accessibility is embedded in core HR operations.

Level 3
ELEVATED

Leading Practice

Is accessibility embedded into HR, leadership, technology, management, operations, and organizational culture? The organization proactively designs for human variability.

Level 4
EXCEPTIONAL

Workplace Accessibility Excellence

Does the organization anticipate human variability and create an employee experience characterized by choice, dignity, flexibility, usability, belonging, and opportunity?

Technology

GAC Accessibility Accommodation Platform™

In Development

GAC is developing a technology platform designed to help organizations manage workplace accessibility and accommodation processes more effectively — built for organizations, HR teams, managers, accommodation professionals, and employees.

Employee Accommodation Portal

Allows employees to request accommodations, describe functional needs, communicate with accommodation professionals, view request status, and evaluate whether accommodations are working.

HR Accommodation Dashboard

Enables HR professionals to receive and assign cases, track status, document the interactive process, record decisions, monitor effectiveness, and generate organizational metrics.

Manager Portal

Provides managers with role-appropriate information — implementation instructions, guidance, training access, and confirmation tools — without exposing confidential employee medical information.

Accommodation Knowledge System

A searchable resource for accommodation possibilities, accessibility solutions, assistive technology, and workplace modifications — supporting individualized decision-making.

Guided Interactive Process

Technology to help HR professionals navigate the accommodation process from request through follow-up — supporting professional judgment without making legal determinations.

Analytics & Organizational Learning

Aggregated data on request volumes, response times, accommodation types, and process effectiveness — designed to protect employee confidentiality while enabling organizational improvement.

Privacy & Security: Because the platform will involve confidential employment, disability, and medical information, privacy and security are foundational requirements. The system is designed around Privacy by Design, Accessibility by Design, Security by Design, Role-Based Access, Data Minimization, and Confidentiality.

Economic Advantage

The Economic Advantage of Workplace Accessibility

Workplace accessibility is not only the right thing to do — it creates measurable organizational value.

  • Expanded talent pools and access to skilled employees
  • Improved employee retention and reduced replacement costs
  • Higher productivity and employee engagement
  • Organizational knowledge retention
  • More effective and efficient accommodation processes
  • Reduced administrative friction and manager burden
  • Improved manager capability and confidence
  • Greater organizational resilience and adaptability
  • Innovation through diverse perspectives and problem-solving
  • Reduced cost of inaccessible systems and reactive remediation

Accessibility Is Both a Customer Experience and an Employee Experience.

Organizations cannot credibly promise accessibility to the people they serve while overlooking accessibility for the people who make that service possible. GAC helps organizations build accessibility from the inside out.
